About Our Selection Process at Trio House Press
When your manuscript arrives at Trio House Press it is assigned to an editor who reads your manuscript. Editors then choose semi-finalists and finalists and forward these manuscripts to our judges. Our judging process is blind, meaning that all identifying information is removed from each manuscript before judging. All semi-finalists, finalist, and award winners will be announced on our website.
During our open reading period, manuscripts are handled as above. However, instead of a blindly-judged winner, the editorial team will select one manuscript to be published. Note that the open reading period is not blind.
Trio House Press may publish a fourth manuscript within the press year. This selection, which our editors would believe to be exemplary, may be from the manuscripts received during the contest or open reading periods.
Trio House Press does solicit manuscripts for future publication.
We nominate our titles for Pushcart Prizes and other awards.

About the Term “Former Student” in Our Guidelines
“Relatives and current or former students of judges are not eligible for awards or publication during our contest submissions period.”
Trio House Press defines a "former student" as:
- a relationship within an accredited institution (as an undergraduate or graduate student)
- a contractual partnership (e.g. mentors and second readers at any degree level)
- an extended relationship that required an application, review process of an application, or a direct one-on-one, extended working environment (e.g. a class at Poets House, a week-long manuscript course with an instructor, etc.)
If you are questioning your relationship with one of our judges and/or weighing doubts, then a submission to the open reading period would best suit your manuscript.
